Where am I? I’m home. That’s a big word of only four letters, it says a lot. Home is a special place for each of us. We’ve been told that home is where the heart is. Home is where you hang your hat. Home is where you make it. What does home mean to you?

The dictionary calls it the place in which one’s domestic affections are centered; a place of residence or refuge; a person’s native place or own country; or the dwelling place or retreat of an animal. Surely not just animals.

Some of those words are lovely aren’t they? Affections. Refuge. Retreat. Everyone needs a place to call home. A place of safety and happiness. How difficult it is to live in a place which doesn’t give us those things!

When you move across the globe from your ancestral home to make a new start, where is your home? Can you have more than one home? When does your new retreat become your home? What is it about that place that makes it your home? Does your calling a place home depend on what is there physically? Things? Or does it depend on the people that make their home with you?

That’s a lot of questions and I’m sure each person who reads this will have his or her own answers. I’d love to hear some of them. So, on this chilly winter Wednesday down under, where are you?
